Ultimizers LLC. began almost 50 years ago as an automated chop saw company owned by LeRoy Cothrell under the name of Ultimizers Inc. A gifted Mechanical Engineer, LeRoy pioneered many innovations that are still used by other companies all over the world. These innovations led Ultimizers to being considered the “Go To” for most of the largest wood products companies in the U.S.
Purchased in late 2024 by James L. Taylor Mfg. Co., Inc. - another well respected, innovative and quality driven company in the wood industry, our mission is to grow into new markets, innovate new and exciting technologies all while maintaining the quality craftsmanship and reputation as a world leader in Automated Rough Mill Systems.
Ultimizers has led the industry since the mid-1980's with higher yields and high value optimizing. We constantly strive to improve recovery and reduce waste through modern technology.
Ultimizers has an unsurpassed service record of assisting our customers and keeping their equipment up and running. We guarantee our products and stand behind them!
The company was founded by LeRoy Cothrell, PE after working for several years at a major Oregon based wood machinery manufacturer as a designer, engineer, and sales manager.
Developed a manual chop saw with an air operated cut action as well as a saw with mechanical clutch activation. Over 3,500 of these saws were sold worldwide. Most of them are still running today. Many other custom machines were designed and built during this time.
Built its first computer controlled automatic cut off saw.
Cothrell Incorporated Ultimizers to design and produce computerized cut-off saws and optimizing systems using crayon marking.
LeRoy recognizing the future was automatic scanning to remove markers, brought the very first scanner into America for cross cut optimization. Ultimizers built and designed many of the most productive Y-transfer designs used to this day to take strips from a single scanner to two saws.
Ultimizers built and introduced the “Ulti-Vision” scanner to the wood industry. There are over 60 scanners worldwide. We continue to grow and develop this brand.
Ultimizers developed the 2001 saw as well as the first ever single scanner to three saw system with scanning speeds at 700 feet per minute making it the most productive single scanner system in the world at that time.
Ultimizers produced our first Rip Saw optimizing scanner and software. Another industry first. Ultimizers uses actual chop lengths and defect requirements on a per part basis to produce the best rip solution.
After decades of leadership and innovation, LeRoy retired in October 2024, marking the end of an important chapter in Ultimizers.
In October 2024, Ultimizers was acquired by Taylor, ushering in a new era focused on continued growth, investment, and long-term commitment to the brand and its customers.
